The emissions data has been made available via Climate TRACE to the public to support climate action, and encourage further research in identifying emissions sources. The models based on which emissions data were generated are continually evolving, and are expected to be updated over time and neither the Climate TRACE coalition nor its suppliers are responsible for any reliance thereon.
The Climate TRACE coalition and its partners have endeavored to ensure that the information made available via Climate TRACE is accurate. However, such emissions data has been (1) modeled using data from third-party sources that are either publicly available or available through licensing agreements, or (2) collected from publicly available sources. The Climate TRACE coalition has no control over any aspects of such data, including its accuracy, timeliness, completeness or consistency. Users of the emissions data are advised to exercise caution and evaluate the methodology, data sources, and limitations of the emissions data. All information regarding geographic boundaries, names, and regions shown on maps and in lists, tables, documents, and databases on Climate TRACE were taken directly from the following sources:
- The Global Administrative Areas (GADM) project (Version 4.1 released on 16 July 2022) for Levels 0 to 2 along with their corresponding ISO3 country codes except for the specific following adaptations made strictly for technical useability:
- HKG (China, Hong Kong Special Administrative Region) and MAC (China, Macao Special Administrative Region) are reported at GADM level 0;
- Kosovo has been assigned the ISO3 code ‘XKX’;
- XCA (Caspian Sea) has been removed from GADM level 0 and the area assigned to countries based on the extent of their territorial waters;
- XAD (Akrotiri and Dhekelia), XCL (Clipperton Island), XPI (Paracel Islands) and XSP (Spratly Islands) are not included in the Climate TRACE dataset;
- ZNC name changed to ‘Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus’ at GADM level 0;
- The borders between India, Pakistan and China have been assigned to these countries at level 0 based on GADM codes Z01 to Z09;
- Two IDs created for a region in UKR with missing IDs (at Level 1 and Level 2).
- The Global Human Settlements Layer - Functional Urban Areas (2019) has been used for city boundaries.
